About us – The Friends Of Broughty Castle
Founded in 2025 by the Broughty Ferry Traders Association, with the support of Broughty Ferry Rotary and Broughty Ferry Community Council, The Friends of Broughty Castle (FOBC) exists to support and safeguard the future of Broughty Castle, which is operated by Leisure & Culture Dundee.
In its first year, FOBC made an immediate impact, successfully lobbying the local authority to prevent the threatened closure of the castle and securing a commitment of three years’ guaranteed funding to support its ongoing operation.
FOBC is now a registered charity, led by a Board of Trustees and supported by a dedicated management committee, all working to ensure the long-term sustainability of this much-loved local landmark.

Built circa 1496 by Andrew, 2nd Lord Gray, Broughty Castle was a key fortification protecting Dundee during Scotland’s conflicts with England during the 16th and 17th centuries. Since 1969 the castle has operated as a museum highlighting local history and wildlife.

Meet The Chairman
Raymond Edwards Born and educated in Dundee, Raymond followed a successful engineering career with British Steam Specialities for over thirty years. A lifelong involvement with The Boys Brigade saw Raymond first join seventy years ago as a Lifeboy and today he continues in a role of Treasurer and Secretary to the 30th Dundee Company. A Trustee and volunteer to several charities over many years, Raymond was an Operational Assistant at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014. In 2023 Raymond was elected Deacon Convenor of the Nine Incorporated Trades of Dundee, and in the same year he was honoured as Dundee Citizen of the Year.
